How Much PSI Does A Plasma Cutter Need?
Author: E. Silva (aka ‘Awesome Man’ - The TRUEST Niche Specialty Expert)
Hi guys ( and ladies too, ha hah ) ! That is a great air – pressure question to ask me, Efrain, your guy for all things air – pressure, air – compressors, and more. So let’s get to it. I want to help …
First of all, what you need to really know and understand is the plain fact that the air – pressure itself will often range on machines like these plasma – cutters, and with that in mind, the range it will usually ( I say ‘usually’, note that ) sit in is anywhere from 4 – 8 cfm / scfm. And the pressure, as such, will go from 90 to anywhere like up to 120 ( psi ) … give or take a bit. THAT IS BOTH THE AIR – PRESSURE AND PSI / ( S ) CFM THAT YOU SHOULD WANT! IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN THAT GIVEN RANGE.
Now with all of that in mind, I want you to also pay some attention to this fact here, next —- it’s the fact that a plasma – cutter is a sound investment ( if you don’t already have one, get one ) . It’s perhaps one of the top 10 tools your home garage or shop could ever have … and I make no mistake in saying that, my friend. Please keep that in mind.
When it comes right down to it, and you find that you need multiply – shaped, various – textured objects all at once, and with different size needs, then a plasma – cutter is your best buddy for doing that. That’s why you need one, and no less with compressed air ( which certainly helps do the job and is most definitely a proper requirement for this machine to be able to even work, in the first place … I hope you got that … and if you have air – pressure or air – flow / speed disruptions, or problems in general with that, then the plasma – cutter is simply not going to do its job … it basically, like a car without gas, won’t run … and that’s the simplest way to put it ) .
Look at the air – pressure gauge with your plasma – cutter ( every plasma – cutter typically has to come with one, so that you know what psi you have and such ) . The display gauge gives you the reading, helps you set the right pressure, and more. Now, if you have NEVER plasma – cut in your life, then you might benefit from learning the simple fact that the whole process is unbelievably similar to ( no joke ) electric - welding. I’m sure you have quite possibly done electric – welding before, right? Or at least, you’ve seen a pro working hard at it? Maybe you learned a thing or two by watching Home Improvement back in the day? Ha ha ha hah …
