Air Compressor Oil Type
Author: E. Silva (aka Mr. Awesome - The Niche Specialty Expert)
This is huge, if you are new to air – compressors, as a whole. You want to study the types of oils and lubricants, as well as which might be best for which, and so much more. And on that topic, I am going to ( like a hungry frog full of energy, when it sees its next meal ) jump right on in …. let’s go ….
Now first of all, one type of air – compressor oil that you will want to heartily consider would be that of no less than the standard ( aka mineral ) compressor oil …. and like its name states, it is, as a matter of fact, actually made of a fine mineral base, in most cases. You will find that this is the cheapest option around ( and most certainly cheaper than the synthetic compressor oil that’s out there, these days, the other type of oil I will talk about next, in just a bit …. ) . This oil’s more volatile and also evaporates more quickly and easily … so basically your air – compressor will use it up faster. Its carry – over is much higher as well, meaning that, once it’s poured in, it gets straight to work and goes straight where it needs to.
It can clump a lot faster and also react more easily to other elements, so do keep that in mind. It is the cheaper option, after all. This is typically the kind of oil you want to use in a kind of compressor that is more specifically NOT USED AS OFTEN ( or perhaps used for lighter applications, like by home – owner DIY hobbyists who simply use it here and there for smaller projects around the house, etc ) .
Now, next, you have synthetic compressor oil … and it is my joy and pleasure to speak to you on this one, too …. ( this is perhaps my favorite type of the two oils, he he he he heh ) ….
They use a high – quality premium synthetic base and oil / lubricant here. I always go with synthetic. Its service life is longer ( even up to fifty percent longer than standard / mineral oil, in most cases ) and that’s a fact. Now what else might you keep in mind? Well …
Keep this in mind —- this life also helps extend or preserve your compressor’s life, too. Did you know that? It’s a fact. So you not only get oil that lasts longer but you also get a healthier, longer – living compressor … so it’s worth the cost to pay a little more and get this oil, right? Yes it is.
Plus, you have the fact that this oil gets consumed by your air – compressor at a much – slower rate than mineral ( standard ) oil does. So that’s another “plus to consider”! Please do get synthetic oil ….
